A retreat for nature lovers, bird-watchers and simply people who are looking for a time-out from the stress of everyday life
Summertime is a very unusual Goan villa, taking its influence not from Portugal, but from Bali, and instead of being low and shuttered, it welcomes the air and light in, tries to separate the interior as little as possible from the two-acre tropical garden.
You stroll from the three huge suites (the bathrooms compare well with the size of the average urban apartment) to the bright, lofty living room, to the broad verandah with its own dining space, to the infinity pool to the waterfall to a little walking track that starts under a tamarind tree – all with no segregation between inside and outside.
Meant to house six guests, Summertime can only be rented as a whole. The advantage is the astonishing silence and privacy, just a few kilometers from the restaurants and nightlife of north Goa.
The most difficult part here is selecting your favourite spot. Should you curl up in a chair made entire of books (yes!), or lay filleted by the pool? Or in an easy chair by the fish pond to watch the koi in their habitat? Once you’ve done that, though, it’s all pie: listen to the chatter of the waterfall, look for the tiny, iridescent sunbirds on the cashew trees, feel the grass under your feet, and stir only to murmur to the staff when you need to choose between the four available set menus.
Summertime has free Wi-Fi and large TVs in each bedroom, but you won’t really bother. It’s nature and peace that are celebrated here, and you’re invited to the (very relaxed) party.
