18 Travel Experiences Around India That Are Worth Saving Up Your Precious Pennies For
To travel is to live, said author Hans Christian Andersen. And we have only one life to explore so much that our travels and explorations have to offer. And, in the process, find our own bliss. So start saving up now so that you can afford to have these larger-than-life experiences around India. Because you only live once, my friend.
Nestled in a tropical valley, Sucheta Potnis and Hans Tuinman's homestay Summertime is a little piece of bali in Goa.

Relax and Unwind
Set in two acres of landscape gardens on a hilltop in Calangute, Summertime is a plush three suite villa with an infinity pool, a lounge pool, a koi pond, and a waterfall. Inside, the double height living-dining area has floor to glass ceiling doors. The Coral Suite which faces the infinity pool and the valley is the most romantic of all the suites. A Private Sanctuary for the Soul
A world away from north Goa's commercialized Calangute beach, but in reality only just a few kilometers, is an exceptional luxury three bedroom villa that's really a private sanctuary for the soul. Lazy sunny days with friends or family by the infinity pool at the aptly named Summertime villa will leave you feeling sublimely rested and replenished.
Summertime is the magnificent creation of Hans (who originates from the Netherlands) and his wife Sucheta (who was born in Mumbai). Anyone with a passion for travel will find them to be absolute treasures. And, admittedly, it's hard not to be envious of the adventurous life they've led. Hans and Sucheta set up an India tour business together in the 1980s, and over the last three decades have explored almost every nook and cranny of the country to uncover remarkable places to stay. It's not surprising, then, that they'd go on to establish one of their own.

Borrow from Summertime’s wood, cane and sunny colours aesthetic for serene interiors in your own home
If you think you’ve seen it all in Goa, Summertime luxury villa in Calangute will make you think again. This boutique hotel exudes a country home vibe with tall columns and terracotta shingled roof. Inside, the living room boasts a double heighted ceiling and cane furniture propped with comfy cushions. However, it’s the airy suites that get our vote. Each of the three suites featuring distinct colour schemes but consistent layout, look out to different views.
For maximising the breeze and sunlight in your house, take a cue from the villa’s spacious living room with floor to ceiling windows. Opt for French windows in your home to drench it with sunlight. Contrary to what the design rulebook says, the rooms in your house can be all different colours. However, to maintain some consistency, some elements could remain constant. For instance, the flooring in all the rooms or even the kind and type of furniture used could be the same. Lastly, pile up the rugs and dhurries to demarcate separate areas in your house, as is done in Summertime to distinguish the reading corner from the rest of the bedroom.

The Goa That Flies Under the Radar
Reclining on a pool lounger at Summertime, a Balinese Airbnb in Calangute, I was mulling life choices. Nap or swim? The water in the infinity pool rippled. All around me was lush greenery. Considering how content I was after a glorious lunch at Avozin—a Goan restaurant 20 minutes away—a nap seemed like the right choice.
Rated five stars on Airbnb and awarded “Asia’s Most Romantic Boutique Retreat 2016” by World Boutique Hotel Awards, Summertime is one of the most sought after properties in Goa. Located on a hilltop, the two-acre property is not by Calangute’s touristy beach but in the area’s ‘last green lung’—as owners Hans Tuinman and Sucheta Potnis put it. The couple has designed the property keeping in mind their preferences for a holiday home—lots of space and comfort—which explains the infinity and plunge pools, master suites and bathrooms the size of a studio apartment in Mumbai. “A house that is not lived-in is not a home,” says Sucheta. “And for all its guests, it could perhaps safely be said, Summertime becomes home.”

Calangute’s Hidden Nook
Summertime, sheltered within verdant gardens and with views of paddy fields, is Sucheta Potnis and Hans Tuinman’s love child. The two, for years, have run Odyssey Tours and Travels that offers tailor-made experiences in India. Summertime, says Potnis, has been a dream and “my retirement plan” whose time had come. “We were seeing rampant development in the area. We have a house here and also owned another patch of land. So we decided to build a villa on that land to protect Calangute’s last green lung. I had always thought of building a Balinese-style villa. Most of the stuff you see in here has been brought on our travels in Indonesia. Some have been handcrafted by traditional Goan masons. And some of the furniture is by a Frenchman living in Pondicherry, who restores and reworks discarded heritage pieces.”

Goa's Luxury Retreats
Goa’s old hands, the people who knew the state before mining, unmindful tourism and its unsavoury reputation as India’s “most liberated beach state” took a toll, will remember the beach as a peaceful haven. Today, Calangute packs in the hordes in all seasons. So it is difficult for me to believe that there is something pristine left in this part of Goa, until I turn into a quiet lane with two or three villas and a long stretch of shrubs and greenery. Even then, I am not prepared for what I see when I drove in through the unassuming gates, across a wooded track. And there it stood on a remote hilltop, a Balinese-style villa, dappled in mellow winter sun, its glass walls reflecting light. Live the Villa Life in Goa
We stayed at the award-winning Summertime, secluded on a hill, with easy access to Calangute and Candolim beaches. Here, the flavours of the real Goa unfolded like an unscripted play. The three-bedroomed, one-storeyed villa — with a deep, pillared verandah — is ensconced in its own private wilderness
and enveloped in a silence so deep that the mere crunch of dry leaves underfoot made trilling birds pause. But it’s the hedonistic escape that Summertime provides, "a put-your-feet-up-style luxury," as owner Sucheta Potnis describes it that is so alluring...

An enchanting private villa
Summertime is an enchanting private villa on a hill, situated a few minutes away from Goa's popular tourist neighbourhoods. Offering three well appointed bedrooms in a lush estate, the villa can be rented out only in its entirety.
There's total quietude at daybreak, except for the sound of water slapping the sides of the classic 42ft yacht oozing oomph and style.
Romantically named Solita, it is Goa's first luxurious boat available for charter. With three decks, cozy niches for reading and sipping cocktails, a lounge with a pantry and two teakwood cabins that exude an aura of easy elegance… the Solita may well make you feel like a wannabe Jacqueline Onassis.
Plunge into the Mandovi river for an early morning swim; go dolphin spotting; float down Goa's backwaters.
Drop anchor and stay for a night or two at Summertime, a luxury villa owned and run by the owners of Solita.

Summertime resort Goa run by Hans Tuinman together with his wife Sucheta has recently won the award "Asia's Most Romantic Summertime, a luxury holiday villa in Goa, is thrilled to announce that they have won the award for Best Romantic Boutique Hotel 2016, from World Boutique Hotel Awards (WBH) in London! This highly prestigious international award was presented in London, England, on November 9th, 2016.
This plush villa rental in Goa only opened up last autumn, and already has rave reviews from those in the know. Quite some-thing, given it can only be rented as a whole house, sleeping six guests. The contemporary, bright interiors house exceptional amenities—infinity pool plus plunge pool, solarium-style living space, three suites with solar-heated bathrooms, a koi pond, small waterfall, beautifully landscaped two acres of garden and fruit orchard, an organic kitchen garden across the road and, if you have deep pockets, a private yacht for booking. But then again, it is run by travel professionals — Hans and Sucheta of Odyssey Tours and now Traveller’s Palm.

Built at a considerable height, this garden villa looks down over a valley, which, with its paddy fields, is a sight to behold in the rains. Help yourself to this view from the pool deck before you retire to your cosy room. You don’t have to step out for anything, not even for the signature coconut-oil massage, which you can request in-room. When that is done, relax by the window as you sip on lemongrass tea with the leaves from the garden

The Voice of Malabar Hills
Summertime Villa in Bardez is the latest villa to be offered for holiday rentals, and is a great example of the breed. Close enough to access the buzz of Calangute but far enough away to be cut off from the noise, this villa perches on a hill, taking in the views of paddy fields from her huge windows. The villa is cocooned within a two-acre garden, filled with fruit trees – you share this private garden only with a dozen species of birds.
Built by nature lovers, this villa also offers a large infinity swimming pool, a lounging pool where you cool off on seats half-submerged in the water, a pond for koi carp, and a little waterfall. You're not expected to do very much – select a tree to sit under and read, take a dip, or honour Goan tradition by taking a siesta in one of the huge rooms. That's another advantage of villa rentals: without the need for numbers, the rooms can be spacious, the bathrooms breathtakingly so. And, of course, you get your own private staff for the duration of your stay – not polished in a hospitality institute, but home staff, who love and know the house. You get your own, private slice of Goa. A holiday where you're ten minutes from the beach and restaurants, but with the option of cutting away to your own private paradise.
Just like you wanted.
